Alter Dialectic

The dialectic process is when two or more people with different points of view have an intelligent discussion arriving at an intelligent conclusion.  This process continues when this conclusion is challenged by another point of view arriving at a new conclusion, and so on and so forth.  Hegelian dialectic describes this process as a thought or idea (thesis) meeting another thought or idea (anti-thesis) to form a new thought or idea (synthesis).  This synthesis meets another thought  or idea to form a new synthesis, and so the process goes. The dialectic process works well in an ivory tower but real life is different.

In real life not too many people have the luxury of having dialectical discussions with others all the time.  Yet everyone is subjected to different ideas (theses and antitheses) on a daily basis with these ideas coming from sources such as print, radio and television - sources one cannot have a discussion with.  As described in the post "Reading another's mind" these thoughts react not only with each other but also with the individual's emotions to form the synthesis.  Logically a set of theses should arrive at at the same synthesis but when the individuals' emotions are factored in an Alter Dialectic process the syntheses are different, although it is the same amongst people who share the same emotions.

Communism and Democracy both espouse egalitarianism.  Yet Alter Dialectic brought on the Cold War which saw the World at the precipice of nuclear war.  It is Alter Dialectic that causes the Taliban of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Maoists of India and most other insurgents to act the way they do.

Understanding the Alter Dialectic and the Parrallelogram Law as described in "Reading another's mind" is essential to understanding others and working together to form a new world.
