Why does the government of the United States of America act like it rules the world? Why is the United States the lead country trying to stop North Korea, Iran and other countries from developing nuclear weapons? Why is the United States trying to set up democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why is the United States trying to promote democracy in Africa? Why is the United States' Dollar the anchor currency of the world? Are Russia, China and India vying to usurp the USA from that position of world dominance? Would Russia, China or India be any better than the United States in that role?
There is a void on earth in terms of government. While we have local, regional and national governments we lack a world government – a layer of government above all existing national governments, including the United States. The United Nations as an institution to establish world governance has failed. There is a desperate need for world governance that the United Nations is unable to provide. Nations of the world cannot continue to develop and threaten each other with nuclear weapons if the world is to survive without a nuclear holocaust. Countries of the world cannot be let to deteriorate into Somalia like states. These are just some examples. Without any credible world government the United States as the only Super Power has an obligation to step in and attempt to establish some sort of world order. World order is important not just to the United States but also to other nations on earth which is why the US is supported by its allies.
There are other countries that want to replace the United States as the dominant power on earth. There is no reason to believe they will be any better or any more successful. http://www.weonepeople.com/oneworld/2009/09/one-world-one-people-one-government.html
