India's Prime Minister says that its Maoist insurgency is the single biggest threat to India's security. He goes on to say India is losing the battle against these rebels (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8266550.stm). This implies that the Maoist insurgents of India are a bigger threat to India than neighboring countries such as China and Pakistan and islamist insurgents including those in Kashmir.

Today, August 1, 2009 is a sad day.
On August 1, 2009 six of our fellow human beings, four women, one man and a child died in religious unrest between Christians and Muslims in Pakistan (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8179823.stm). Pakistan is struggling to deal with the Taliban and this mistrust and consequent conflagration between Christian and Muslim Pakistanis only makes that struggle more difficult.

August 20, 2009: The Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, the libyan bomber of Pan Am flight 103, returned to a hero's welcome on his return to Libya after his release from prision on compassionate grounds. He is dying from cancer.
September 9, 2009: Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi again received a standing ovation, this time from a group of African Union MPs. Read the BBC article "Africa MPs cheer Lockerbie bomber".

Why does the government of the United States of America act like it rules the world? Why is the United States the lead country trying to stop North Korea, Iran and other countries from developing nuclear weapons? Why is the United States trying to set up democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why is the United States trying to promote democracy in Africa?
Why is the United States' Dollar the anchor currency of the world?
Are Russia, China and India vying to usurp the USA from that position of world dominance? Would Russia, China or India be any better than the United States in that role?

In the post Money is the root of all evil I said "The root of all evil is not money. It is the human lust for wealth and power". Money, like a knife or atomic energy can be used for evil or good. While examples of usage of money in a negative manner abound, the use of money in a positive manner is harder to find and is generally associated with wealthy philanthropists.
